Mother
of God, Mother of Priests
The
call to intercessory prayer is presented against the backdrop
of this difficult period in the history of the Church and the
world. A new book, Mother of God, Mother of Priests
by Kathleen Keefe (12/01 release date), lays the foundation
for intercessory prayer in parishes and homes. It examines the
impact on the priest and the family when the great Mercy of
God is proclaimed in this near merciless age.
Drawing from her retreat conferences and parish missions, the
author helps readers to identify areas of confusion and darkness
that present obstacles to God's merciful love and healing.
Healing
and Renewal
Mother
of God, Mother of Priests is a comprehensive guide to
identifying areas of life where spiritual healing is needed
today. Inspired by the writings of St. Faustina, the book examines
the role of spiritual director/confessor in the light of the
message of Divine Mercy.
The effects of the Eucharist as Communion-Sacrament are detailed,
as well as an in-depth look at the Sacrament of Reconciliation
with references to the Catechism of the Catholic Church and
the Diary of St. Faustina.
It has been described as "an open invitation to greater
holiness for priests and an inspiration for lay people,"
in numerous reviews.
One of the book's most important contributions to the literature
on the Priesthood is an easy-to-read format that enhances one's
understanding of the dignity of the Priesthood, the gift of
God's mercy, the graces received through the sacraments of Eucharist,
Reconciliation, and Anointing of the Sick.
Mother of God, Mother of Priests has an imprimatur
from the New York Archdiocese.

About
the author:
Kathleen
Keefe is a New York City public school teacher whose
varied background in the fields of counseling, education,
and apostolic work in the Church afford her a unique
perspective in writing about healing and renewal of
hearts. This book contains a great deal of practical
spiritual advice necessary in today's world.
An
excerpt from the afterword written by the author on
September 15th. Her reflections on the Mercy of God
and Our Lady's presence with the heroes and heroines
of Septemebr 11th is a fitting end to this book.
"When I awoke on Tuesday, September 11, 2001
my first thought was of attending Mass on the third
anniversary of my mother's death. The Gospel that
day consolingly echoed in my heart as I left church...
Within
the hour, however, life as we know it here in New York,
in Washington, and throughout the United States and
the world would never be the same again. The words "Attack
on America," flashed across television screens, to be
forever emblazoned on our minds and hearts. We had been
swept into a realm of evil that cruelly expanded our
definition of spiritual warfare."
"During
the days that followed, a unified nation turned to God
in a way that I have not witnessed in my lifetime. Over
the airwaves, politicians, newscasters, public servants,
priests and ministers, and ordinary citizens called
for prayer and restraint, for compassion and forgiveness.
As the miracle of divine mercy was being manifested
at a time of a new kind of war, there was a sense that
the forces of evil had won no victory in New York City.
God's mercy was palpable. The unseen enemy's massacre
of innocent people was being countered by an incredible
outpouring of love and mercy from the hearts of people
of every race, creed and color. It was New York City
at its best; America, stronger in its time of agony.
There were no strangers in New York City on that terrible
Tuesday, only heroes and heroines, many of whom became
victims before our eyes. In the days that followed this
human carnage, from the streets of New York to the pulpits
of churches across our nation and the world, there was
one cry that could be heard: "Trust in Jesus." And we
remembered with new understanding, the words of Jesus
to Faustina: 'Mankind will not have peace until
it turns with trust to My mercy.' "
"The
Mother of Sorrows was with her children on Tuesday,
September 11, 2001 in New York City, in Washington,
D.C. and in the skies over Pennsylvania. She is with
America today in its time of sorrow. She is with the
world as Mother of God and Mother of Priests."
